Shaman Trees
Cecelia Chapman
November 2021
Where I am living, in Aiken, South Carolina, there is the largest urban forest in the United States. And even most streets are covered, and I mean completely covered in a huge, very beautiful arc, of very old oak trees branches. The landscape is pristine. It is an ecology, environment-minded community, despite the Cold War nuclear reactor 25 miles away.
I called this piece Shaman Trees because shaman, druids and varied pagan priests were drawn to oak trees, their portal to other worlds, their healing plant.
I included four shaman with the photographs of the trees because I felt they belonged.
