Performed by a group from Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, Breath reveals human imagination and creativity through the dancing body, the folding and unfolding of a non conventional garment and thoughts on sustainable clothing production projected as handwritten fragments. The dancers explore space, and the vital materialism of human body and textiles through improvisation and meditative movement from Asian Dance techniques. The design of the garment is based on a concept Margret Wibmer has developed over a number of years under the conceptual umbrella of ‘Infinite Play’. For Breath, Mai Chin took the text projection further by adding certain dynamics to it. Linking back to her artistic practice, she played around with reflection and refraction on a rotatory mechanism all of which was manually controlled by her in real-time as a performative element.

Originally from Thailand, Thanchanog Ho Mai Chin is currently a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore. Her citizenship renunciation and migration history have compelled her to work around the theme of identity. Traversing autobiography and memories, Mai Chin is intrigued to explore the notion of time, and consciousness employing light as the constant medium in her work.
